Book concept and design for Coordination Denied, a book about a photographic workshop that never took place. Israeli authorities coordinating the access to Gaza denied the authors, Rosy Sinicropi and Jacob Balzani Lööv, to enter the strip just few days before their arrival. Unable to reach their young students in Rafah, the duo decided to do the workshop anyway from outside the strip and while travelling in Palestine and Israel: using a mix of Facebook and Google Translate they chatted with the students everyday too follow their progress and talk about their shooting. This difficulty of communication and impossibility of physical contact became the source of inspiration for the book: the student’s photos - mostly taken with smartphones - show us their everyday life in Rafah, while Rosy and Jacob’s ones shows us a state where walls and separations are perceived as normal.
